Out of Florida

After years of delays and the objections of all lesser gods we finally departed Orlando in our motor home on 12/27/2017. Too exhausted to hit the road in earnest we spent the first night in a Narcoossee KOA campground. This is a beautiful place with all the amenities. Early that evening Cheryl and I took a walk. From their dock on the lake I took a photo of the campground lit only by it’s own light and the faintest setting sun. In keeping with our proximity to Disney one of the motor homes displayed Mickey and Minnie Mouse in their windshield. Beginning our trip was celebrated with Glenfiddich.

The next morning the sun was just beginning to rise over Lake Whippoorwill when I took photos of the lake, including a beautiful sloop rig.Sunrise_Sailboat A few additional photos can be found here .

After a quick Walmart stop our first full day of driving ended in a campground near White Springs, FL in the cold and rain. Since we left Orlando without a plan we needed to determine if we should travel farther north on Interstate 75 or if we should head west on Interstate 10. So we ate dinner and wore out the computers enough to determine that there is too much arctic air headed south and we better head west.

Our second day of driving was also without any sightseeing stops. Although there was one rest stop along Interstate 10 that might qualify – the off ramp to the rest area kept going and going and going!

I am happy to report that as of 12/29/17 we have finally escaped Florida and are headed west into Alabama .
